Short film draft 2 | Class audience viewing

During last weeks media lesson, on Tuesday 18th April, Robert and I showed our class audience our current short film at its current stage of editing. We told the audience the majority of the film is finished. We just need to add in the voice overs for 'Crimsons' character and some more improved shots of the car chase. At this point of the film production, both Robert and I are very excited to finish the film now as we are very close to finish anyway.





Our audience were very impressed with the running through the woods scene, the opening scene due to the 'originality' of the whole process/lighting, and they were also very impressed with the fight scene due to the enhanced effects/smoke grenade ignition. One thing that the audience said to improve on included the sound, as through some clips/scenes, the sound levels jumped up/down which needs to be improved. This is something that I will definitely improve with Robert while editing.

Vladimir Propp's Character Types Theory

Robert and I thought it would be appropriate to include research into character types and the theory behind it. So, I have made a Prezi presentation on Vladimir Propp's character type theory. This is because some of our characters in our short film play different roles compared to Propp's theory. It is common for short films for missing out some character types due to the shortness of these films (5 minutes.) The short screen time lacks for these characters to develop their story.

Ancillary task 2 - Double page spread magazine article

This is my current double page spread magazine article of my short film 'Paradox'. I have chosen to go with a dark background that attracts the viewers to the rich quality photographs of the two characters I have used for the main images of my article. These two characters are facing each other which illustrates rivalry and tension between them, this intrigues the viewers and makes them want to watch it more. I have also inserted many critic ratings, awards and reviews (due to my audience feedback) as well as my own initial thoughts.

Ancillary task 1 - Short Film Poster

This is my final film poster for myself and my partners short film 'Paradox' which is another meaning for the term 'The Escapist'. After many experiments with several photographs from photo shoots and image croppings , I decided to include the main masked villain as it draws the most attention due to the daunting gas mask being the main focus. Also , I chose to include  a swirl like pattern on a black background which cuts away to a scenic view of the other main villain 'Igor' entering the Mercedes vehicle on top of a multi Storie car park. Finally I have added the typical text applicants that you would obviously find on a poster which include the main actor credits, the film title, main film distributor, release date and some sort of 3D or max advertisements to attract more attention.

Ancillary tasks analysis

To gain some knowledge and experience into film posters, I have decided to research and analyse existing film posters on their certain features that make them successful to the genre they fit into (action adventure.) The first example a well known Batman : The Dark Knight poster that has many conventions of an action/adventure film poster that I would like to adhere into my own. The overall presentation of this poster is excellent with a nice layout of colours, text and signifiers that the audience can relate to.


The next example is of a double pager magazine film spread "The Avengers" which is a film that I like a lot. Despite this articles layout  is not exactly what I want my article to look like , I still like the features included in this piece including the quality image and the different fonts and statistic bars that engage the viewers into reading the article. I think this article looks very professional and definitely is an iconic piece of media work.

  I will now start making my two ancillaries now I have some good ideas which I have taken inspiration from the Avengers magazine article and the Dark Knight film poster.
