Final post

09:06:00
This final post identifies that this is the end of my A2 media studies coursework. I feel that I have covered everything I need to post about the progression of my A2 media coursework. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning and studying the course every week especially as it has taught me how to showcase, plan my work, use technical equipment properly, how to identify conventions of certain film genres and how to effectively time manage my work. My knowledge has also massively improved on codes and conventions on media theory and has made myself become a more creative person that is thoroughly proud of the work I have accomplished this year.

Final finished Short Film

04:29:00
After thorough editing and final touches, Robert and I have finished our A level media short film that consists of 5 minutes. This final version of our film includes improvements with the sound levels, visual effects, crisp editing and an improved car escape scene. Robert, myself and all of our cast/actors are very proud of the work we have produced and we are all looking forward for showing our official short film to our audiences.

Smoke Effect Creation for Crimson character

15:17:00
As one of our characters in our short film 'Crimson' enters the short film by transforming down from the sky in a cloud of smoke. Robert and I needed to decide what three-dimensional animatic rendering software we were going to use to generate a transparent smoke/cloud template that we could insert over the intended footage of Crimson entering and leaving the short film. Robert and I wanted to replicate 'The Death Eater' smoke effect from the Harry Potter films. So, we decided to use a software called 'Maya' to create the smoke itself before importing this editable video over to the main editing software on Roberts system 'Sony Vegas'.

As Robert already had some brief experience with the advanced software 'Maya', he was able to start with this challenge and complete it after some technical issues. I helped him decide the correct smoke colour, shape, size and visuals so it suited the character 'Crimson' when he enters the scene. The results of this smoke effect animation looked positive and will hopefully work our very well in our short film.

This video below is an example of a smoke effect render Robert and I created after some well thought decisions.

Short Film - Draft 3 with Audience Feedback

14:10:00

As we now have successfully collected all of the necessary/complete set of footages for our short film, we have now completed a third draft for our audience to view for more feedback and impressions. This showing to the audience of our 3rd film draft was a good process as it gives us time to improve the areas which the audience feel needs work on before the final hand in deadline in May. This 3rd draft also included the inserting of the final car chase scene and tweaking the colour corrections of the footage. The overall feedback from our class audience for our 3rd draft included the following:

  1. Car shot looks exciting and leaves story on cliff hanger.
  2. Colour grading shots are very good.
  3. Film is now looking professional and is flowing smoothly.
  4. Improve the sound levels as they are uneven.

Day 5 | Filming Preparation

13:19:00
For the final car escape shots for our short film, Robert and I have been thoroughly organising the equipment we need to use. The footage for our short film so far looks very good in my opinion and looks genuine like a real action/adventure film would look. We are very keen to finish our short film now in time for the 'Oscars' ceremony at our school where all of the student’s short films and music videos are presented on a big screen.

As we need a stunt driver for our car escape. I have contacted a friend of mine who is confident at driving cars at high speeds. We have told him to attend the film set at East Hill at 12:00pm so we can get on with the last final shots. We plan to use a variety of shots with the DSLR camera, Go Pro and the iPhone 6s. We will need all of the filming equipment we have used in the past for our other filming days except for the trial-pod as the car chase doesn't require it at all.
